WB govt to act against agitations during working hours

Kolkata, Sep 10 (PTI) The West Bengal government today warned of disciplinary action against employees agitating during working hours in government offices including the state secretariat.
''Strong disciplinary action will be taken against those involved in any activity that could hamper work culture,'' Finance Minister Asim Dasgupta said.

A government circular would soon be re-issued in this regard, he said.

He comdemned the protests at the office of an assistant secretary in his department yesterday and said it would not be tolerated.

He said he had discussed the matter with Chief Minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee, Chief Secretary A K Deb and Home Secretary Asok Mohan Chakraborty.

Under the banner of the Mahakaran Sangram Committee, the protestors went to the office of the Assistant Secretary of the Finance Department Swapan Maitra yesterday demanding withdrawal of show cause notice issued to six of their members for participating in a sit-in-demonstration on August 26 during office hours.

The protestors dispersed only after the Special Secretary of Finance Department Swapan Bhattacharya withdrew the show cause notice issued against the six employees of the Central Despatch Office.

''Those responsible for this will be punished,'' Dasgupta said. PTI
