Bangalore: Facilities at the Bengaluru International Airport (BIA) that legislators feel are far below expectations have come under the scanner. The state government on Thursday agreed to have them probed by a House committee.
In the assembly, D K Shiva Kumar described BIA as a "shed'', remarking that the Mysore Road bus terminus is far better. He was supported by his party colleague Siddaramaiah, who said BIA is a "firstclass godown, and HAL airport was better''.
Taking a serious note of the members' observations, infrastructure minister G Janardhan Reddy said: "Whatever has been said of BIA is true. It should be a monument like Hampi or Aihole. A House committee will probe whether BIA has adhered to the original agreement on providing facilities, what should be done to bring the airport on a par with others, and whether there have been any violations.''
Shiva Kumar said BIA promoters had promised a world-class airport, but the quality of construction resembles that of a bus station. "There are not enough toilets or seating facilities in BIA."
