IT industries mull over ways to go green

MUMBAI: Recently, IT companies got together in Mumbai to ponder on the manner in which they could reduce their impact on climate change.

They talked about their endeavours to manage power consumption, reduce greenhouse emissions and increase the lifetime of assets, among other benefits.

On why there were taking this initiative now Anand Naik of Symantec India said they had been adopting regulation laid out by US and Europe for optimal utilisation of resources electricity and
energy, cooling etc.

In the past organisations like Greenpeace had accused IT companies of falling short of green initiatives. IT managers say that globally people have been talking about green initiatives for the last one or two years when the issues of
global warming, energy efficiency came into larger focus.

The IT managers, however, said they were not taking green initiatives in the IT industry due to pressure from any organisation.
